Retired Justices To Be Honored At Portrait Hanging On October 1, 2009

Chief Justice Leigh I. Saufley of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court announced today that on October 1, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. portraits of retired Supreme Court Justices Howard H. Dana, Jr. and Susan Calkins will be unveiled at the Supreme Judicial Courtroom, Cumberland County Courthouse, Portland, Maine.

Justice Dana was appointed to the Supreme Judicial Court in 1993, and served two full terms, retiring in 2007. Justice Calkins served on the bench for twenty-seven years. She started as a District Court judge in 1980, where she served until her appointment to the Superior Court in 1995. Three years later, she was appointed to the Supreme Judicial Court, serving until her retirement in 2007.
