Notice Regarding Dissolution Of The Maine CANEP Program Maine CANEP Advisory Panel
Important Information Regarding the Child Abuse & Neglect Evaluation Program (CANEP)
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has notified the Maine Judicial Branch that it will no longer contract with the Administrative Office of the Court to oversee the Child Abuse and Neglect Evaluation Program (CANEP), effective December 31, 2012. Other than as noted below, the CANEP program will cease to exist on December 31, 2012. In its place, DHHS will administer an evaluation program through its central office.
Although all of the details are not yet available, the Judicial Branch is announcing that effective on December 10, 2012, the Administrative Office of the Courts/CANEP will no longer process requests for evaluations. Judicial Orders predating and received by December 10th will be processed. Evaluations that are in progress as of this date, will continue to be managed by the Administrative Office of the Courts(AOC)/CANEP.
After January 1, 2013, evaluations in child protection matters will be processed by DHHS. It is anticipated that DHHS will publish more specifics and, although this will not be a court-sponsored program, the Judicial Branch will link to any such information from its website at http://www.courts.state.me.us/maine_courts/supreme/chief_message.shtml.
As of January 1, 2013 all evaluation requests should be sent to:
