NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
ON AMENDMENTS TO
THE MAINE RULES OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
JANUARY 31, 2014 - 11:00 A.M. TO 12:15 P.M.,
AT THE MAINE STATE BAR ANNUAL MEETING,
PORTLAND MARRIOTT AT SABLE OAKS

The Advisory Committee on the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct will hold a public hearing to receive comments on the proposed amendments to Rules 1.0, 1.5, and 1.15 of the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct.  These amendments are offered in response to Professional Ethics Opinion #206Non-Refundable Flat Fee Agreements.”  The Opinion is available on the web site of the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar.

The proposed amendments are accessible on this website.

This public hearing will be in conjunction with the hearing on amendments to the Maine Bar Rules.  It is the intent of the Advisory Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct to provide attendees with an opportunity to comment on the proposed amendments before submission to the Supreme Judicial Court.  Although the hearing is being held as part of the Winter Bar Meeting of the Maine State Bar Association, registration for the meeting and membership in the Bar Association are not required; the hearing is open to the public.

Any interested person is encouraged to submit written comments on the amendments in advance of the hearing.  They should be sent (by postal service or e-mail) to:

Paul W. Chaiken, Advisory Committee Chair
Rudman Winchell
P. O. Box 1401
Bangor, ME  04402

Those who will be offering comments in person at the hearing are urged to notify Paul Chaiken at the above address by January 27, 2014, so that efforts can be made to provide all speakers with an adequate amount of time to present their comments.
